Snowy Egret
Elegant, fussy and always busy, the Snowy Egret takes the 3 of Clubs. Look for it in any Florida marsh or ditch, stirring up the water with its feet.
Fun facts
-
It has black legs and bright yellow feet, often called its 'golden slippers'.
-
It shuffles those yellow feet in the shallows to flush out fish and shrimp.
-
In the late 1800s its breeding plumes were worth more than their weight in gold to the hat trade, and the outcry that followed helped launch the bird conservation movement.
